About Terry Burns
Terry Burns is a lifelong Kanawha County resident, retired West Virginia Division of Highways employee, and conservative Republican running for the House of Delegates in District 53. Raised in a working-class family and shaped by hardship in early life, Terry spent nearly 20 years serving West Virginians in the state government before retiring and returning home to fight for his community. A hunter, homeowner, husband, and father, Terry Burns is running to defend conservative values, restore opportunity, and put common sense back in Charleston.

Terry Burns' Priorities
Putting West Virginia First
District 53 has watched businesses close, jobs disappear, and communities fall behind while politicians talk and nothing changes. Terry Burns believes it’s time for real leadership focused on rebuilding local economies, supporting small businesses, and creating opportunity so families can stay and thrive in West Virginia.
Secure Borders & Law and Order
Terry Burns strongly supports President Trump’s immigration policies and believes our federal immigration laws must be enforced. If someone enters this country illegally, they should be deported. Terry supports full cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities.
Defending the Second Amendment
As lifelong hunter and gun owner, Terry Burns will always defend the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. West Virginians don’t need permission from Washington or Charleston to protect their families, their property, or their way of life. Terry will oppose any attempt to weaken Second Amendment protections.
Parental Rights In Education
Terry believes parents should make decisions about their children’s education and upbringing. After personally experiencing a school system that failed his own child, Terry supports school choice options that ensure every family can find the right educational environment for their kids. He will also ensure radical gender ideology is kept out of our classrooms.
Protecting Girls’ Sports & Defending Our Children
As a girl Dad, Terry believes fairness matters especially when it comes to protecting children and preserving opportunities for young women. He supports policies that keep boys out of girls’ sports to ensure fair competition and protect female athletes. Terry also will fight to protect children from political and social experimentation pushed by activists instead of parents.
Coal, Energy, & Lower Costs
West Virginia produces the energy that powers America, yet too many West Virginia families struggle with some of the highest utility bills relative to income in the country. Terry is proudly pro-coal and supports an all-of-the-above American energy strategy that puts West Virginia workers first. He will fight to protect coal jobs, expand energy production, lower utility rates, and ensure West Virginians benefit from the resources produced in their own state.
Standing Up for Seniors & Taxpayers
Terry believes seniors who built West Virginia should not be taxed out of their homes. He supports exploring property tax reforms that protect retirees on fixed incomes while ensuring out-of-state property owners pay their fair share.
Growing Tourism & Outdoor Recreation
Terry has long championed expanding ATV trail systems and outdoor recreation opportunities to bring jobs and investment into central West Virginia, building on the success seen in other parts of the state. West Virginia’s natural beauty should create opportunities for local families.
Backing the Blue
Terry stands firmly with law enforcement. Our communities depend on officers who put their lives on the line every day to keep families safe. Terry believes politicians must support, not undermine, those who protect our neighborhoods.
